CAUTION:
*If unfamiliar with driving through the desert*
1. Make sure your vehicle is operating properly and check fluid levels.*
2. Good tires and properly inflated.
3. Plenty of drinking water.
4. Communication cell phone**, CB/Ham radio and charged spare batteries.
5. Stay on the pavement, unless vehicle is designed for off road and you are experienced.
6. Make sure you know the directions and if possible friends and family know your itinerary.
7. If possible travel in cooler parts of the day.
8. Top off with fuel when possible.
*Even non-mechanical people should carry spare fan belts, hoses, hose clamps, and fuel filters.
Baling wire, duct tape, old hangers, chewing gum, and rags. Even if you can't fix what's wrong, there's always the chance that a competent person may drive by who can.
*Carry extra oil, transmission & power steering fluid, and coolant/water.
*Jumper cables or other means of jump-starting. *Check your spare tire.
*Check cell phone coverage areas for dead zones.
*Check with locals about the road & conditions ahead and what you can expect.
*Deserts are known for flash floods, be aware of weather.
*Know radio stations for road conditions.
